International proudly presents wines from Viña Carmen - Chile |
Viña Carmen was founded in 1850 by Christian
Lanz, who named the winery in honour to his beloved wife Carmen. More
than a century later, in 1987, the Claro Group acquired the brand to
take it into a new direction. In 1992 a new winery was built and new
vineyards were planted, to produce the best quality wines from Chile,
and export them worldwide.
 |
Carmen
has been recognised for its quality and for being a pioneer in the
Chilean wine industry. As an example, the Carmenére grape
was discovered amongst Carmen vineyards. Additionally the winery
has been the leader producer of wines from organically grown grapes
through its Nativa brand. |

Chardonnay
grape(s):
100% Chardonnay
area:
Central Valley |

This
wine is a blend of grapes from four different valleys: Casablanca (15%),
Maipo (60%), Rapel (10%) and Maule (15%). 100% of the grapes were handpicked
and carefully selected before pressing. The Casablanca, Maule and 50% of
Maipo grapes were crushed and macerated with the skins for 5 hours. The
rest of the grapes from Maipo and Rapel were directly pressed without any
maceration period. With the skin contact we are looking for the intensity
of the aromas and the elegance in the palate, the warmer areas like Maipo
and Rapel give the structure and a very concentrated body. After the pressing,
which is one of the most important steps for the white wines, the juice
was finned, racked and fermented in tanks (77%) and in barrels (23%), where
it remained during 4 months before blending and bottling. No malolactic
fermentation was made in this wine. |
The
fruitiness in the nose and the freshness on the palate show a good example
of a well balanced wine. The complexity given by the oak adds a pleasant
creamy sensation. The green-yellow littering colour reminds limes, peaches,
pineapples and lemons. This medium-bodied wine has an elegant and long finish. |

The
grapes were hand harvested from our estate vineyards at the foothills of
the Andes Mountains in Maipo Valley. This locations offers a diversity of
soil types, aspects and altitudes, with a dry mediterranean climate. Very
low humidity, free of rainfall and a significant day/night temperature variation
during the ripening season of the grapes. All grapes are state grown, with
a great emphasis placed on canopy management, yields and irrigation in the
vineyards. The grapes were strictly selected before the crusher. A 12 days
cold maceration period for the grapes, to ensure maximum retention of fruit
flavours and colour extraction. Then, fermentation was carried out in stainless
steel tanks at 28º - 29º C. The total maceration period was of
30 –32 days, average time. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally
in tanks and in barrels. 80% of the wine aged in French and American oak
barriques for a period of 10 months, 20% of the wine remained in tanks.
After bottling, the wine aged for additional 6 months prior to its release.

Richly
concentrated and complex . A wine that combines impressive wild black cherries,
black currant and cassis with some hints of mint, cedar, clove, tobacco
and spices. Ripe and generous in the palate, sweet fruity flavours, fleshy
